Samantha Peacock from our Bath Workshop initiated and organised a visit to the stained glass workshop at Nidaros Cathedral having previously visited the stone department back in 2016. She was given the full support of Cliveden Conservation to carry out the CPD opportunity.
As well as being an experienced stonemason, Sam has trained as a stained glass conservator at Holy Well Glass. This was a unique opportunity for her to reconnect with the team at the cathedral and build on her glass conservation skills.
During her visit, Sam worked on a small panel that had been removed from the cathedral for conservation and repair works. The project involved documenting, dismantling, cleaning, repairing and re leading the panel ready for reinstatement.
Sam reports on her experience:
“Spending time in the stained glass workshop at Nidaros gave me the chance to sharpen my skills in this area and brush up on the conservation issues faced in the conservation and repair of historic stained glass. As stone and glass sit side by side within a building, understanding both materials will enable me to repair windows, both glass and stone, in a holistic and sympathetic way.”
