Highly Commended in the Building Crafts Award

7th October 2021

Excellent design, architecture and craftmanship have been recognised at the 2021 Sussex Heritage Trust Awards. Chairman of the Sussex Heritage Trust, Simon Knight presented the Awards to a sold-out ceremony and lunch at Pangdean Old Barn, Pyecombe, with guests including the High Sheriffs of East and West Sussex.

Congratulations to our conservators Jenna Burrell and Ana Logreira who were Highly Commended in the Building Crafts Award for their work to conserve and repair an early 17th-century lime plaster ceiling in Chichester. The judges were highly impressed with the project:

“Excellent craftmanship. Wonderful to discover this hidden gem so well restored. Good restoration, pity no members of the public will see it. The two craft ladies – Jenna Burrell and Ana Logreira should receive a highly commended.”

The ceiling, a rare surviving example of plasterwork of this type in the county of Sussex, has been stabilised and preserved for years to come with minimal intervention and using ‘like for like’ traditional material.
